A Look At Career Options In Nursing

Posted by Sarah on Apr 27, 2009

Growing up in the sixties was a radical time. One thing back then with respect to nurses was most if not all of them were women. Things are not really like that now days since you see many more men becoming nurses. Looking at it from a different perspective though you do see more women doctors know as well. With that in mind however, most nurses are still women and doctors men. However in the future in my flip, but that could take generations or never happen.

In todays world there are also a lot of people changing careers. Some of the most popular careers are those in healthcare and nursing. Right now you can read about it everywhere that there is a shortage in the nursing field. This likely means droves of people are migrating to that career. Who knows when it will flip to there no longer being a shortage of nurses due the aging population in general.

People who do not plan on going to college for years and would like to start working sooner rather then later may want to become an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse). If they later decide to advance their career they could consider taking an online lpn to bsn program. After that they may even consider an MSN program.

For nurses who completed an RN program and later decided to advance their career they have options as well. One option would be to complete an online RN to BSN program. That would likely give them the chance to move into a management position someday.

The thing to remember is folks in the healthcare field have many different career options available to them. As far as the nursing shortage goes, no one really know for sure when it will end. Until it does nurses will likely have a good job waiting for them.
