How you can Plan A Holiday Party

Holiday Party Planning Done Right

As we approach the vacation season, usually awash with holiday parties, it got me thinking about how staff are rewarded. Definitely one of the chief reasons for hosting a company holiday party is to reward employees for their difficult work and dedication, and there could be money reasons as well.&nbsp ;

a vacation party does something else too. It creates a space for workers and management to get together not as workers, but as mates. It offers a chance for folk to get together and experience the company of the people you work with without being concerned about the bottom line, which is something that won’t happen much throughout the year. Sure there might be finance benefits ( see the article linked above ), but this is basically done by creating a bit of goodwill that goes a good way. It lets your workers know that you place a value on them and their work. So when I see that firms are deciding against doing a party because of the economy I worry about the message that this sends to&nbsp ; employees, lots of whom doubtless anticipate and expect some sort of year end celebration. When times are difficult, which indubitably is the case in numerous industries, it’s especially necessary to show employees you care.

If you typically do a luxurious party, of course it’s understandable that you’d cut back a bit, but don’t get rid of the party altogether. Do it smaller, simpler and smarter. You can change the scale without spoiling the event. If you normally hire a celebrity comic, for instance, think about using talent locally. If you normally do an extravagant meal, do a smorgasboard, or even a potluck. My point is do something. If you can afford to use holiday party entertainment, I’d definitely suggest it. Using a corporate comic is a good way to get peoples’s minds off the economy for 45-60 minutes and it gives your guests a standard experience to talk ( and joke ) about for approaching months and leaves everybody feeling slightly better ( just in time for the vacations ).
